Riding fast through the turns is definitely one of the most alluring things about motorcycling and at the same time, one of the things which separate men from boys, so to speak. However, when it comes to riding hard through the twisties, not all the riders have what it takes for making it safely back home.
Even more, turn can be a real menace for riders who don’t know the limits of their own skills. Each bend can be even more inviting and trick riders in laying a heavier hand on the throttle… until disaster strikes. Whether it’s about excessive speed, lack of focus, panic, target fixation, stupid mistakes such as braking hard in the middle of the curve or downshifting brutally, all these errors can make the day end in a very bad way.
I am not 100% sure what caused the rider in this video to go off the road and crash into the décor, but for starters I’d say he was riding way too fast for either his skills or the road. Or both. The brake light is not lit, and no skid marks can be seen behind him, so I’d say he might have also downshifted and released the clutch too quickly, causing the strong engine brake to make his lose control of the bike.
Still, I’d also add that the fellow was either not familiar with the road, which makes speeding even worse, or simply failed to sync all the needed actions, such as slowing down a bit, possibly downshifting more carefully, positioning better on the road and leaning to try and squeeze through the bend. The slo-mo is epic, and I really hope he walked away from this,
