Californian Authorities Introduce Electric Vehicles Test Program
California’s DGS will release 50 converted Toyota Priuses and will gather performance data through GridPoint’s proven solution. The aim is to analyze the actual efficiency gained through the use of electric cars.
To make the testing program as relevant as possible, the PHEVs will be driven under real traffic conditions: varied landscape, climate and drivers. The Priuses will be tested as fleet vehicles through California, from Sacramento to San Diego, as state fleet vehicles.
GridPoint’s data logging system will record all the performance data from the vehicles and charging stations. The data will then be analyzed and presented on the Internet. This will include real-time reports for carbon emissions, fuel consumption, charging location, charging location, distance traveled and more.
“This robust PHEV demonstration project is another example of California’s leadership in the adoption of clean energy technologies,” said Michael J. Carlson, Executive Vice President, GridPoint. “GridPoint is proud to supply the software and advanced analytics that will inform and advance California’s adoption of electric transportation.”
The data logging solution also allows utilities to manage the effect of vehicle charging on the grid. Through the system, these are able to manage the timing and rate of electricity going into the connected vehicles.
