Did the American car makers really fall that behind that they need to use their competition’s cars to come up with a good car? After Ford used the old and retired BMW E92 M3 as a benchmark for their brand new Mustang, we’re seeing Cadillac doing the same for their CTS-V model.
Our latest spyshots show a very well camouflaged model being pitted against an ordinary BMW F10 M5 on what appears to be just a normal test day over at the Caddy proving grounds.

There are a few things to point out that really make this discovery both important and shameful for the Americans. First of all, if you talk to anyone from the North American continent, especially one that is a claimed ‘gearhead’ you’ll see that they take a lot of pride in their products and really stand behind them.

That’s not a bad thing but when you’re only trying to create a better car than a vehicle that’s already dated and heading for the end of production, you’ll never make it.

The E92 M3 was used as a benchmark for the Mustang but the Ford people didn’t realize that that model will soon be obsolete and that its replacement will be a hell of a lot better. Therefore, the new F80 M3 will obliterate the Mustang anytime, anywhere, not because the Ford is a bad car but because the engineers were limited when creating it, limited to making it just a bit better than the old version, so that they can use that as marketing.

Same thing will happen to the new CTS-V. The M5 was probably brought on to benchmark its handling and dynamics because on power alone, we’re pretty sure the Caddy won’t have a problem in shaming the BMW. However, that’s not everything that matters. If you have 1,000 HP and can’t really use them, what are they good for? Like the song says: absolutely nothing.

Furthermore, the M5 is already in its final years, already receiving a facelift and making way for the new model. What good will the CTS-V be when the new car shows up? Once again .... You know the drill.

It’s really a shame that Americans are going down this road. It’s not that we’d like to see the Bavarians put to shame but such an attitude limits the options for us, the buyers, and that doesn’t help anyone out there. You’re pathetic, Cadillac.
