Cadillac Shows Camouflaged ELR Ahead of Detroit Debut
In order to manage testing the thousands of components that make up any automobile, most automakers actually reveal them before the finishing touches are done. Such is the case with the ELR electric coupe, which is still undergoing testing, even though its debut will take place in little more than a week.
The ELR was photographed as it was being driven through the mountains of southern California for key development tests including steep grade performance and higher altitude operation last year.
The car is based on the Chevy Volt and will use it range-extended EV platform. Last year, GM sold 23,000 Volts, and we have every confidence the ELR will be successful.
Expect the full reveal of the ELR to take place on at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan on January 15, 2013.
"Cadillac customers are going to enjoy the unique features ELR will bring to the market. We’re going to change the way people think about luxury and electrification,” said Chris Thomason, ELR chief engineer.
autoevolution will be attending the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
