Last December General Motors revealed its plans to withdraw Chevrolet as a mainstream brand from Europe by the end of 2015. However, GM said it will continue to sell “select iconic” Chevy-badged vehicles (read Corvette and Camaro) on the Old Continents, but declined to go into specifics.
Earlier this week, the American giant confirmed that both the Chevrolet Corvette and the Camaro will be distributed via its Cadillac showrooms. European customers will get every version of the Corvette, including the ultra-powerful Z06, and both the coupe and convertible variants of the Camaro pony.
At the Geneva Auto Show, Cadillac outlined its future growth strategy for Europe, saying it will focus on brand positioning with a strong focus on customer service and expand its model lineup to match the offerings available in the United States.
“We at Cadillac see ourselves as a true ‘challenger brand’ in Europe and we fully understand that we have a lot of work ahead of us to make ourselves relevant to the European premium customer,” said Thomas Sedran, managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe. “Being a niche player, we have the opportunity to challenge the traditional approaches to marketing and selling premium vehicles.”
Cadillac’s European offensive begins this year with the brand new ATS Coupe and the redesigned 2015 Escalade SUV, both of which were introduced in Geneva last week. The luxury brand is also bringing the ATS sedan, the CTS sedan and the SRX crossover.
“The engine of growth for Cadillac is our cars, with a fresh new take on premium. The unique personality of the brand makes Cadillac the distinctive new face in the crowd. Europe is a key region for any premium brand and will play an important part for Cadillac in the future,” said Cadillac global chief marketing officer Uwe Ellinghaus.
