Button Still Racing for Wins

Every racing fan out there knows that there are drivers who race for wins, and there are drivers who race for championships. Although everyone agrees that Formula One leader Jenson Button should take the second approach, the Brawn GP driver insists he is still hungry for victories this year and cannot settle for 3rd or 4th place in a race.

While reckoning that his 23-point lead is still a quite comfortable, despite his disappointing 6th place in the British Grand Prix, Button said no one can really be certain of Red Bull's rate of development and he should keep on pushing for race wins.

“So I've a 23-point lead which is still quite a lot to be fair, and Rubens is driving the same car as me so I can try to keep him in check. But Vettel's the one where you don't really know where their (Red Bull) performance is going to be. So it's important for us to be fighting for wins. We can't settle for third or fourth place,” said Button after the Silverstone race.

He expressed his disappointment over his poor performance ahead of his home crowd last weekend, but insisted his team will bounce back in the second part of the season. He also argued that Red Bull's smashing advantage over the Brawns at Silverstone were track-related, and it won't happen many times this season.

“I would love to have won the British Grand Prix, but it didn't happen. I would have liked a good result for the crowd, but also a good result for myself and the team.”

“They (Red Bull) were very quick and I am sure they're going to be competitive at other races, but I just don't think they are going to have the advantage they had at Silverstone. We're stronger than Red Bull on braking, but you never hit the pedal that hard at Silverstone, which is another reason why we couldn't get the tire temperature,” added Button.
