We reported earlier about Brinco, the all-new pedelec Bultaco engineered to kickstart the new electric era. Bultaco declared that 175 Brinco units will be manufactured first and sold to test how the customers perceive the new machinery.
Today, only 41 of the initial 175 Brinco pedelecs are available, so if you plan to get your kicks in a most stylish, sporty and electrically-aggressive manner, you'd better hurry to reserve yours.
The price of the Bultaco Brinco seems to have been less of a drawback than what we expected. The €4,800 ($5,450) price tag could get anyone a lot of bike, for street, off-road, or even for both. And thinking about second hand bikes would yield even more worthy choices.
Not exactly the tamed urban pedelec
Still, when talking about adventure/ off-road pedelecs, gas-powered motorcycles are not exactly the best comparison, so we'll stop here. Brinco offers quite a lot of bang for a pedelec. Suffice to say that this is not your casual city bike, even though it will happily carry you to work.
With a total weight of 33 kg (73 pounds) that includes the 7 kg (15.5 lb) battery, Brinco might be a tad on the heavy side if it comes down to pedal power solely. The 2kW motor can produce a 3kW peak power, and a peak torque of 60 Nm and gets its juice from a 1kWh Li-Ion portable battery.
In 100% electric mode, Brinco will deliver a 30 km range (18 miles), but can hurl the rider at up to 60 km/h (37 mph). In pedal assist mode, however, the range grows to 100 km (62 miles), and this spells a lot of practicality. And with a recharging time of just 2 hours using a casual charger, the Brinco will be ready for action at almost any time.
Brinco has an aluminium frame and iOS/Android compatibility
The grip throttle is easy to use and intuitive, while the keyless starting uses a wristband or card. This pedelec obviously integrates with the rider's iOS or Android smartphones.
With an aluminium beam frame, Bultaco Brinco rolls on 24" wheels that can take a beating. Together with the USD forks and the piggyback rear suspension, the Brinco can tackle dirt trails with ease. Stopping power comes from a 4-pot front caliper squeezing a 203mm front rotor. A similar brake disc equips the rear wheel, as well.
Finally, add a 9-speed transmission and triple riding modes, Sport, Urban and Eco, the portability of the battery that means you can recharge it anywhere, and suddenly the price no longer seems that huge, does it? If you feel like getting one, check with Butaco's online store.
