Bulgarian Drivers Guided by Swarovski Crystals
text size: A- A+
The road between the Bulgarian coastal towns of Sozopol and Primorsko are about to get pimped by the Bulgarian ‘Road Safety Association’ (RSA) with a crystal studded central dividing line. However, as hard as it may be to believe, this solution will be applied for safety reasons, not for giving the roads a bling.
The Bulgarian RSA has approved approximately EUR 30,000 for the use of Swarovski crystals for better night driving. The crystals will be included in the paint that will be used to mark the central dividing line, making it bright and visible in heavy rain and fog conditions.
Additionally, on extremely sharp turns, danger signs will be marked with Diamond foil and lager crystals will be used on the divider for better visibility. Such a dangerous turn is the Staviiski Turn where, according to novinite.com, a serious accident involving world skating champion Maxim Staviiski took place in 2007.
Staviiski got behind the wheel of his SUV after drinking alcohol, crashed into another vehicle at the turn that now bears his name, leaving one man dead and a young woman in a coma.
If this solution proves to be effective, Bulgaria might be the trendsetter of a new road fashion era. How long will it be until we see Swarovski-powered vehicles?
