Bulgaria has recently entered the European Union and Brussels has put some pressure on the country’s officials to fight harder against the corruption and organized crime. Therefore, the Bulgarian revenue agency said it will strongly investigate the sources of income of the Bentley owners, suspected to be mafia bosses.

So if you are a Bulgarian Bentley owner, get your papers in order, otherwise you are most likely to go to jail. There are 105 Bentley owners in Bulgaria, which is very high compared to other European countries.

They will all be verified to determine if there was any income fraud involved when purchasing the vehicle, after earlier this year the revenue agency also checked the owners of luxury yachts and expensive properties.

"It turned out Bulgaria is one of the countries in Europe where the number of registered Bentleys is...very high,"
said Rossen Bachvarov, the agency spokesman. "There is nothing wrong if one has a Bentley as long as they have paid their taxes."

However, the statement made no reference to whether other luxury vehicle owners are to be checked as well.

According to the Daily Mail, industry officials say that Bentleys retail for at least 165,000 pounds in Bulgaria. Though Bacharov refused to say whether senior government officials were among the owners of the luxury brand, local media have reported that Social Minister Emilia Maslarova is driving a Bentley.

Maslarova was involved in a press scandal earlier this year for spending more than 8,600 euros for a trip to Korea, which equals an average pensioner’s pay for eight years.
