Word has it Buick is considering a diesel engine for the US market. According to Edmunds, quoting a company source, Buick is likely to offer diesel power "as it increasingly aligns its US product line with models sold by Opel, GM's European arm".
The insider declined to name a specific Buick model that would become available with an oil burner, but Edmunds says the Verano is the best candidate. The website speculates the compact could get the same unit offered for the Chevrolet Cruze, as the two vehicles share the same underpinnings.

Introduced starting with the 2012 model year, the Buick Verano is currently available with GM's 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engines.

In other Buick related new, Edmunds claims the company is considering a more powerful unit for the Encore, which is only motivated by a turbo 1.4-liter four-potter. The crossover could get a turbo 1.6-liter engine as early as 2015 in order to attract more buyers.
