French-based luxury vehicle and supercar manufacturer Bugatti has filed a trademark for the Rembrandt name with the European Union’s Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, Autoblog reports.
Although most of you are already thinking about famed Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn, you should know that Bugatti actually had its own Rembrandt. We’re talking about Rembrandt Bugatti, the younger brother of company founder Ettore Bugatti.
Born in Milan, in 1884, Rembrandt Bugatti was an artist known for his bronze sculptures. He committed suicide at the age of 31, in 1916.
Is Bugatti looking to name a future vehicle after Rembrandt? We really don’t know, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the automaker will use the name for an upcoming special edition Veyron as part of the Legends series which already comprises the Jean Pierre Wimille and the Jean Bugatti editions.
