Bruce Willis Is the Face of Daihatsu: Weird and Funny

Bruce Willis Is the Face of Daihatsu: Weird and Funny 1 photo
He might’ve missed “The Expendables 3” cast after reportedly refusing Sylvester Stallone’s $3 million for four days’ work offer, but Bruce Willis was somehow convinced by the oldest Japanese car manufacturer Daihatsu to become their new mini-car promoter. The “Die Hard” movie star is playing a Hollywood actor contracted by the company to appear in its commercials in a 4 part series.
Just when you think things can’t get more awkward with celebrities doing strange things just to get money, this hits you. And it’s not that we mind Hollywood superstars to be part of different ads worldwide, but in Willis’ case it’s also about solidarity, which he doesn’t keep. In fact, the “Fifth Element” actor is one of the many American-based stars who were employed by Subaru from the late 1980s through the mid-‘90s, along with Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, Antonio Banderas.

Bruce Willis even appeared in Subaru Legacy (Liberty in Japan) ads in the early ‘90s and then came back again in 2004 to celebrate the model’s 15th anniversary. Well, you see why this new contract is kind of weird? It's weird and funny once you actually look at it.

The first of the four commercials shows a Daihatsu boss who insists that the new ad campaign for their latest car, the Mira E s, should focus on the car, and not on a star. But the people from the commercial department tell him they’ve already hired a big Hollywood guy. In another clip, we see Bruce on his way to Japan practicing his Japanese lines (which he gets pretty good at, by the way).

The second commercial has the same boss still insisting that the message should be about the car’s features, and not about Bruce. The 59-year old walks in and eventually flubs his lines, which isn’t thanking him. Anyway, the next clip is probably the funniest one, as we see the message written on Bruce’s long black coat. The boss agrees that the message does stand out, but not in a good way. Well, you’ll figure out by yourself which of the ads is the best.

Funny or not, according to Sleewee, Bruce Willis has reportedly received $3 million dollars for saying a few lines for Daihatsu, which is not that bad after all.
