David Cameron, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, recently came into media attention after purchasing a cheap used car for his wife.
Instead of sending someone else to search for a used vehicle that’s still roadworthy and just paying the check, David Cameron went to see a 2004 Nissan Micra for Mrs. Cameron.

The Prime Minister returned to the second-hand car dealer the next day, paid for the car with a card, and drove off with his security detail as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

The entire event came to public attention this week, after the Telegraph published an article on Cameron’s latest activities. Iain Harris, a second-hand car dealer, told reporters that he had received a phone call on Friday when he was informed that the Prime Minister is en route to visit his office to inquire about a used vehicle.

At first, Iain Harris did not ponder on the call he’d received, and presumed it was all a practical joke by one of his friends. Instead, the UK’s Prime Minister appeared in front of him, and asked to look at a 2004 Nissan Micra that was on sale for 1,495 pounds (the equivalent of $2,200). Once the seller gained a grip of the situation, he started talking to the PM before sealing the deal.

As David Cameron told him, the vehicle was meant for his wife, Samantha. Before agreeing to the purchase, Cameron wanted to make sure the car was made in the United Kingdom. The seller joked about the PM not wanting a red car, as the color is used by the opposing party.

Luckily, the Micra was blue, but we don’t believe this had such a significant impact on the purchase decision. Mr. Cameron handled the insurance policy on his own, and seems to have left a positive impression on the seller.

The report also mentions that the Prime Minister did not check out any other cars before buying this Micra. For a regular person, this would be a terrible idea, as we advise car shoppers to take a look at several models and multiple examples before deciding on a purchase.
