Brilliant Home-Made Radial Engine

We love DIY engines, and this has to be one of the best! Making an engine yourself gives it a whole new character - it’s your creation onto which you breathe life. Russel Stutton has spent the last four years of his life designing and building his 9-cylinder radial engine, a layout similar to what you’d find on a WWI biplane.
Russel has used 9 Honda single-cylinder engines spread around the crankshaft. In total, the engine has 5.4 liters (329 cu-in) capacity and it runs on LPG, which was preferred over gasoline as it spreads evenly around all cylinders. The same engine, powered by gasoline would have run much rougher, due to the fact that the fuel would have been difficult to spread evenly among the pistons.

Despite the engine’s failiure shown in the second video, Russel is determined to get it working and onto his boat when it’s completed. We really admire Russel and people like him. He should be kids’ role model, not Wayne Ronaldo or Cristiano Rooney.
