Business is booming for Brembo, one of the world’s best-loved and sought-after braking system manufacturers. According to the Swiss motorheads Speedweek, Brembo is gearing up for a new massive investment in the US, worth of $100 million (€74 mil).
Brembo will build a new, 30,000 square meters (sq ft) complex in Homer, Michigan comprising a foundry, and a research center. The move is aimed at integrating the US production capacities better, with the new Brembo plant designed for all the production stages for enhanced efficiency.

The at full-operation, the new Brembo plant will be capable of delivering up to 80,000 tons of brake discs blanks for both motorcycle and automotive use. There was no specific mention on the caliper production, but things are expected to become clearer as the actual building process starts.

Brembo is said to start the construction of the new plant next year, with the facility becoming operational in 2017. The new complex and the head office in Plymouth will also create around 250 new jobs in the area.

The commitment of the Bergamo-originated Italian aftermarket manufacturer to the North American market is also expected to grow bigger. North America has been increasingly lucrative for Brembo’s sales in the last 5 years, and by 2014, it is expected to become the most important market.

Having entered the North American market back in 1998, Brembo has gained control of the automotive brake division of Hayes-Lemmerz and bought their facilities in Homer and Apodaca, with the new move aimed at establishing a more solid foothold in the business. Also manufacturing clutches, seats, seat belts and other similar motorsport-only components, Brembo is also one of the biggest suppliers of braking technology to the Formula 1 and MotoGP. The Brembo group also owns brands such as Brembo, Breco, AP, Bybre, Marchesini, and Sabelt.
