Brammo Wants Crowd-Funding, Empulse Smokes Tesla Model S at Laguna Seca

Brammo is looking for ways to help grow its business, but it looks like the way to do so does not lead to the stock markets, or at least, not yet. While going fully public is a rather lengthy process which involves a lot of paperwork, bureaucracy, attorneys… and spending money, Brammo believes that crowd-funding might do the job for the immediate future.

EarlyShares was chosen as the platform for crowdfunding the expansion of the company. Instead of selling apparel and discount vouchers towards getting a new bike, Brammo’s recent move will allow people to actually become part owners in the company, however, still skipping the stock exchange markets and all that goes with them.

The offer is available on EarlyShares, but only those who have been accepted as possible investors will be given more details on the deals. Brammo and EarlyShares want to make sure that people deciding to invest a minimum of $25,000 (€19,450) in funding the electric bike manufacturer are fully aware of what they’re getting involved with. Brammo is eyeing a $3 million (€2.33 mil) investment from the public, and plans to reward each new part owner with a $2,500 (€1,945) rebate on a new electric bike.

It’s not sure how Brammo plans to limit a potential (partial) take-over from other companies, but we can expect that the crowdfunding move will only represent a small part in the whole business. Meanwhile, Brammo’s Empulse electric bike is beating the living hell out of Tesla’s Model S around the iconic Laguna Seca circuit, and you can watch the contest after the jump. The best-ever lap around the Laguna Seca belongs to Jorge Lorenzo, who went past the finish line in 1'20.554. The Brammo Empulse lapped the track in 1’45.629 and was a lot faster than the Tesla Model S, which needed 1’54.433 for the same job.
