Brad Pitt is well-known for his passion for motorcycles, and he is also an avid rider, not only an enthusiast collector. However, when you're a famous, rich guy, spending a small fortune on a bike once in a while is a natural privilege.
You know what Oscar Wilde used to say: "the only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it," so seeing Brad Pitt indulging into spending £250,000 on a WWII sidecar motorbike looks almost natural. Now, this money is indeed a small fortune, as we're talking about €346,000 or $387,000, and this means serious business.
The bike was used during Nazi operations in the Greek island of Crete in 1943, and was sold in a military surplus auction two years after as the German left the country. A man from Athens got hold of the bike and painstakingly restored it.
Yannis, the guy in question also says that less than 500 such motorcycles from that era are still around in the world, and their scarcity makes them just as valuable for bike collectors as paintings are for fine art lovers. As for the price, he adds that even the spare parts, when available, are utterly expensive, having to pay more than €2,000 ($2,235) for a small metal piece.
Reportedly, Brad Pitt's interest in WWII bikes grew much stronger after he starred in Inglorious Basterds and especially, Fury. Speaking of Inglorious... this is the very name of a custom sidecar project based on the BMW R nineT that will soon be manufactured...
As for the make of Pitt's latest collection addition, we'd go for the Zündapp KS750, and we'd be thankful to see WWII bike experts having their say in this.
