Brabus 800 Based on SL 65 AMG Is Something Jeremy Clarkson Would Like

All the Motor Trend covers from the 90's didn't boost the notoriety of Brabus as much as one episode of old... old Top Gear. I think it was in Season 9 of 2007 that Jeremy Clarkson took a serious liking to a twin-turbocharged Mercedes SL-Class.

He went to great lengths to explain how the V12 had been turned into a volcano and how this was the most powerful roadster in the world. This, coming from the owner of several AMGs, is a serious compliment.

Fast forward a few years and Brabus still takes the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine out of an SL and replaces almost every component. While the roadster can now be ordered with a very nice 3-liter, there are those in the world who simply must have the best. Arms smugglers, heads of tyrannical states and slave owners... those kinds of people.

Of course, we are only joking, as the Brabus 800 built on the bones of the SL 65 has lost some of its mojo. If you want the fastest roadster in the world, you can have things with at least twice that power or exotic hypercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Instead of just focusing on power, Brabus has looked at other things that make its customers happy campers. These include sculpted body kits, the best leather in the business and delicious exhaust notes.

Boasting 800 PS thanks to the T65 RS engine mod, this rocket features 170 ponies more than a standard SL 65 AMG. To understand why this vehicle cost a small vast fortune, we need to take a look at things like the carbon hood or the carbon interior trim. They cost a pretty penny, as do those massive wheels.

Brabus has also replaced every Mercedes logo on the car with its own. This is, technically, not a Mercedes. Heck, even the door lock knobs are custom-made. And as usual, the interior is ridiculously well trimmed.

The dream leather you find on the seats has somehow managed to find its way to the floor. That's right, this has leather carpets, complete with piping and a quilting pattern.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
