Bonhams Motorcycle Auction, Below Expectations

Steve McQueen's Husqvarna did not sell in the Bonhams auction 1 photo
Last weekend saw quite a lot of stir in Las Vegas, as a large motorcycle and related memorabilia auction took place. Bonhams brought some extremely rare motorcycles and some famous ones, too, Steve McQueen's Husqvarna and the 1939 BMW RS255 Kompressor (the master piece) to name just two.
Despite the huge attendance (reports of a full room of standing people came in), the auction was pretty much flopped and most of the high-value items were withdrawn because the reserved price was not met. It has been reportedly sold later outside the official auction, for an unknown price.

The 1954 BMW Rennsport RS54 Sidecar went for $148,000 (€ 110,760). The sidecar and the 1952 Vincent 998cc Black Shadow were the only two bikes to sell for more than $100,000 (€74,840). Some others have been sold for significantly lower prices than expected: $75,000 (€56,130)instead of the expected $120,000 (€89,800) for the 1920 Mars 956cc Type A20.

McQueen's Husqvarna, Mr. Cool did not change hands. So if you wanted it and couldn't make it to Vegas last weekend, there is still hope.
