A recent set of spyshots showcasing a heavily camouflaged BMW X5 is currently making waves around the internet after various journalists thought it was the brand new X7. Looking at the photos, it’s understandable why the confusion was made.
The last set we had of the hybrid plug-in X5 were of the car in a much more advanced state than what this one implies. Using pre-production lights both up front and in the back and completely covered in camouflage, the big SUV could be easily mistaken for the upcoming X7, unless....

Unless you take into account the fact that BMW claims that the new model won’t be an elongated version of the F15 X5. That means the new X7 will have a completely different look and will be a proper new model that will comfortably sit 7 people and have all the luxurious amenities it needs to rival the Escalade and Navigator.

Considering the size it would need to do so, this is obviously not the X7 we’re expecting. As for the true car that hides beneath, we already told you everything you need to know about it.

It uses two engines, one is a turbocharged 2-liter 4-cylinder unit making 245 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque while the other is an electric motor making 95 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque for a combined level of power of 340 HP and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque.

With these numbers, the eDrive X5 will do 20 miles on electric mode alone at speeds up to 75 mph (120 km/h) while when using the two sources of power combined it will be capable of reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in under 7 seconds. Expect it to be released early next year.
