The Ultimate Driving Machine is a nice slogan for BMW to have, but from all the 4-cylinder engined cars they've been making everybody has learned not to trust it. If you truly have you heart set on a powerful and sporty SUV, Porsche is probably your best bet. Or is it?
At the 2014 New York Auto Show, we spotted a couple of very interesting new SUVs which could be great for younger buyers. One is the Porsche Macan, which is based on the Audi Q5 but looks so much sexier, the other the brand new X4, enjoying its world debut. Even though one is marketed as a Sports Activity Coupe, we think the same buyers will be tempted by both cars, based on prestige, power and looks alone. So which would you have?

A direct comparison between the pair is hard, since the Porsche is more expensive and more powerful, but it can be done. If you live in the US, the 300 horsepower X4 xDrive35i will battle for your attention with the 340 horsepower Porsche Macan S model. Believe it or not, both cost almost exactly the same: $48,000 for the Bimmer, $49,900 for the Stuttgart car. In this market, that difference is nothing!

Over in Europe, things are probably going to be a little different, the BMW X4 offering a wider choice of engines, which make it far cheaper than a Macan. There's also a diesel version that's even faster and more powerful than the xDrive35i. We're talking about the xDrive35d, producing 313 PS. WIth 0 to 100 km/h in in 5.2 seconds, this version of the X4 is actually faster than a petrol-powered Macan S (5.4 seconds), not to mention the the Macan S Diesel (6.3 seconds).

Both German cars know how to look good. The Macan arrives in New York wearing a cool pack from the "Porsche Exclusive" catalog: glossy side skirts, new exterior mirrors, Bi-Xenon headlights in black and 21-inch Sport Classic wheels painted in high-gloss black. Meanwhile, the red BMW features the optional M Sport package with sport features like massive air intakes at the front and a more stylish back.

We know which one we'd have. But which one is your favorite? Cast your vote and give us a cool reason for your choice in the comments section below.
