A very fine trace of understeer, this is what the BMW X4 is exhibiting here. Admittedly, when this happens, the slight tendency is swiftly transformed into a neutral character. If you insist, the vehicle goes into some sort of an all-wheel drive slide.
What this means for “normal” people is that they can tackle bends at ridiculous speeds and still be safe, at least in an X4 xDrive35i M Sport like the one we drove here. Alas, the superb rear bias of the xDrive we knew is now gone. For us, this was a brilliant way of enjoying the twisties in any all-wheel drive BMW and we’re sure many of you agree.

As for the cabin, we’ll cut to the chase and tell you that the rear area of the X4 is more spacious than that of the BMW model that inspired it, the outgoing X6.

Aside from that, BMW’s X4 comes with plenty of assets for making a long trip pleasant. It’s quiet and refined to drive, which is exactly what you need in the crossover segment. And speaking of what you need, this title goes to the X3 if you must buy such a vehicle with a BMW badge.

The X4 is more expensive, a bit heavier and less spacious than the X3, so why then would you go for it? Well, we’ve just enumerated a number of aspects that will put many people off from this Sports Activity Coupe, just like its oddball shape will.

Nonetheless, those who will buy the car won’t just be OK with it, they will adore it, specifically thanks to its design. Come to think of it, this is the definition of a niche product.

We could’ve ended the story here, but then we remembered that the X4 xDrive35i’s pricing, be it European or American, sends the BMW straight into Porsche Macan territory. You’d better stick to the lesser engines then, something we talked about in our BMW X4 review.
