BMW X-Style Crossover in the Works
text size: A- A+
In 2010, rumors surface of BMW working on another X-badged model. One which, according to inside sources, will be a downsized version of the X6.
According to BMWblog, the new X in BMW's stables will be built on the F25 on which the new X3 will be based. In fact, the similarities between the X3 and the X-Style, as the new vehicle is referred to internally, go beyond the platform, with the new vehicle to be heavily based on the X3.
Of course, the other “like it or dislike it” vehicle launched by BMW in 2010, the 5 Series GT, will also borrow some of its elements to the X-Style. Apparently, the defining back end of the X6 will be replaced in its smaller brother by the two-way hatch back seen on the 5er GT.
Design wise, the X-Style will be mixing a coupe-like roofline with a conventional sedan rear-end. Features which will make it a Sports Activity Sedan (the 5 Series GT is a Progressive Activity Sedan, while the X6 Sport Activity Coupe)...
According to the sources, the project has not yet received the green light from BMW, but given the fact it shares most of its components with existing vehicles (meaning it will be cheaper to build), the green light might turn reality soon.
