BMW Using Facebook To Develop 1 Series Special Edition

The contemporary automotive sales fight no longer uses just the showroom as a battlefield. The war for the public’s attention also takes place online, where automotive producers from all over the world are racing to offer innovative projects that capture potential customers’ attention.

The latest initiative of this kind comes from BMW. To see exactly what’s going on, we’ll have to travel to Italy, where a team of young BMW designers decided to bring a fresh status to the 1 Series hatchback. The designers came up with no less than 16 custom exterior finishes for the entry-level BMW. Here’s where YOU step in.

BMW has used its Italian Facebook page as a canvas for this story and is asking fans to vote for their favorite design. The chosen proposal will make into production. The carmaker will team up with 3M wrap specialists to offer a limited edition of the 1 Series wearing the special clothes, which will use the... EDITION name and will only be offered on the Italian market.

And the story doesn’t stop here. The development is aimed at young customers, who might not have such a strong financial situation. This is why BMW will offer a special payment plan for the vehicle, which will allow younger drivers to pay lower rates. This could be called “the younger, the better”, as a 20-year old buyer will have to pay a rate of 2 percent, a 21-year old will be eligible for a rate of 2.1 percent and... you get the idea.
