I Want to Drive!... Even if my financial situation is a bit far from tying up with that of my colleague Bach, you probably already know I'm not actually poor either. And that's just to be modest. Yet, I don't like helicopters and I only use planes if I really have to. I'm a fan (age ... Continue reading >

The BMW stand at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show will be a very popular one, if we are to judge by the novelties to be presented there. And we are not only talking about the cars, as the German manufacturer today announced it will also present its Concept BMW Application Store.

A bit in the dark on what this means? Well, the application store demonstrates how a car can be adapted to the needs and interests of its occupants by downloading and storing individual applications.

Still in the dark? Think of it this way: you can enjoy, from the comfort of your own car, multimedia travel guides from MERIAN, Geowiki, games, web radio, podcasts, Facebook, XING and Twitter. Additionally, you can transfer contact data to the navigation system or mobile phone at the touch of a button.

The use of the Twitter application, for instance, allows for the computer to retrieve the car’s position from the navigation system, and information about the destination time and location are posted on the web. Of course, receiving tweats can also be done without ever leaving the car.

The Concept BMW Application Store will allow, sometimes in the future, the download of new applications, including vehicle software. "In this way the vehicle would be kept up-to-date with the latest developments throughout its service life and costumers would continue to benefit from the BMW Group´s latest technical innovations after buying their car," BMW says.

autoevolution will be attending the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions.
