A click of the mouse will soon be the only thing necessary to get you your very own all-electric i3, as BMW have announced, according to bloomberg.com, that they will be selling the products of their electric sub-brand online.
The first one to come will be the aforementioned i3, which is scheduled to make it to the world market some time in late 2013, with a price of around €40,000 ($48,500), followed by the sporty i8, one year later. However, for buyers who like a more ‘classic’ approach to buying a car, albeit an electric one, will still be able to do so in special showrooms around the world, the first of which has been opened in London.
According to Stefan Bratzel, director of the Center of Auto Automotive Management at the University of Applied Science in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, “There is considerable risk in BMW’s approach of promoting the I brand so prominently [. . .] There is the image risk, if they don’t succeed as quickly as expected, and then there’s the main risk of costs, which can only be countered with high deliveries.”
