The 1 Series Coupe is dead. Long live the 2 Series Coupe! – that’s what we feel like saying right now, as BMW flaunts its brand new entry-level coupe for the first time.
The long months of speculation are almost over, and the car codenamed the F22 is almost out. We’ve known from a while now that it was coming, the first-ever 2 Series and we're excited to see it and drive it. Its first teaser is short and sweet, telling us October 25th is the day we have to mark on our calendars.
Since so many comments on Youtube ask what the 2 Series is, we feel obliged to explain the renaming strategy. The 2 and 4 Series are just new names for the 1 Coupe/Convertible and 3 Coupe/Convertible. The 1 Series hatchback and 3 Series sedan, estate and GTÿ will retain their names, at least for now.
Production for the 2 Series Coupe starts in March and we have three engine choices available from launch: 220i, 220d and M235i. The car in the video is most likely the M235i, similar to the M135i. Its six-cylinder engine will take it from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 second with an optional automatic gearbox and 5 seconds with the manual gearbox, but only available with sDrive for now.
