BMW System 6 Helmet Now in Bright Yellow
text size: A- A+
The helmet is equipped with a double visor and an integrated sunshield that can be adjusted using a slider on the left side of the helmet. Moreover, the shell and interior are available in two sizes. The outer shell made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) is also manufactured in two sizes.
The outer visor is scratch-resistant on the inside and outside absorbing UV radiation 100 percent. The hygroscopic inside visor provides protection against misting over in wet conditions. In addition, the lockable visor ventilation safeguards clear sight in bad weather.
Furthermore, the chin-strap with integrated neck straps is easy to operate using an adjustable snap lock with central pressure button. The chin deflector can be individually adjusted.
The interior shell is made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), while the entire interior padding is made of high-grade alcantara and Coolmax fabric (DuPont). The latter can be removed for washing together with the neck and cheek padding which is also available in different sizes.
The System 6 helmet is ready for retrofitting with the BMW Motorrad Communication System while also having an efficient ventilation of head and visor.
The BMW Motorrad System 6 helmet is also available in night black, dark grey matt and white silver metallic as well as in two decor versions (Cosmic, SharpEdged). Pricing range begins from $480 for the plain colors to $530 for the ones with graphics.

I've owned a series of BMW helmets and clothes and found them to be of high quality and faultless. I had no hesitation in ordering a new S6 with the Bluetooth communication system installed (coming to GBP800). However I have experienced no end of problems with a leaky visor, now a broken visor mechanism and poor fitting of the communication device.
I have had no response from BMW on their willingness to fix the problems. All in all, a bad product with poor back up service. This is disappointing when you actually rate their previous commitment to quality.

I bought the new S6 from BMW and here is what I have found after 5 or so months:
The Good: Nice looking helmet. After a little break in, to seat the padding, the helmet is very comfortable. It is the quietest helmet that I have owned even in the up position and I ride a GS Adventure with its noisy windshield. The Bluetooth speaker system was installed by the dealer and works perfectly. Charge lasts a full day even babbling to a riding partner all day. Anti fog screen works.
The Bad: Ungodly expensive. The front ratchet system sticks from time to time and I fear that I will break it while forcing it open. Fine dust from riding offroad may be the culprit. The clear windscreen stays up in the shop but always fall done if you are riding at highway speeds. Why the dust hasn't helped this, I don't know. Doesn't appear to come with a Canadian plug attachment on the charger. However my Blackberry charger is a perfect fit. The little foam piece on the microphone falls off immediately the first (OK) or second time you remove the helmet. I siliconed mine. Presenting the problems to my dealer, I was told to call BMW directly!!!
The Verdict: I would rate the helmet 9 for comfort and audio, but because of price and the basic silly problems, I would rate the helmet around 6, which is a shame because I love it. Oh well....love clouds everything.

I've had my series 6 almost a year now. Today one of the side plastic panels fell off on a ride and I didn't notice until I got home, so it's somewhere out there on the highway. I noticed these flimsy side panels would sometimes have the corner pop out of alignment but I never brought it in, assuming it's just a poor design. Besides that the helmet fits ok, except on long rides where it makes my left ear sore after a while. Rode it for a month before I did a long ride so too late to bring it back. It does leak slightly in heavy rain, and the mechanism to flip up the visor sometimes sticks. This helmet was very expensive! Must have been really feeling generous to spend twice as much on this as I would on another helmet. Next time would go back to Symax.

Bought my S6 just over 2 years ago. The tinted visor scratched after 3 months. BMW replaced the helmet. The replacement leaked at the centre of the outer visor. BMW replaced the helmet. The mechanism to bring the outer visor down when the chin piece is fully lifted has stopped working. Because my original purchase was over 2 years ago BMW are replacing number 3 as a 'goodwill gesture' and, unless I contribute 50% of the purchase price will not entertain any fault claims on the replacement. I've never had to replace a helmet due to faults. And yes it does make my left ear hurt after a long journey. Richard

OK, now the inside visor keeps falling off. It's got tiny tabs holding it in, they just worn down slightly and now the visor falls off in the wind, or when I move it up it gets stuck.
Also the paint job is thin and there is no clear coat, so any touch on the helmet will scratch to the colour below - which looks like primer.
