The more comfortable riding position of scrambler motorcycles is starting to gain more popularity among retro bike fans, leaving behind the previously popular cafe-racer style. After Ducati had made a hit with theirs, BMW decided it’s time to give their R nineT the Scrambler treatment.
BMW Motorrad unveiled all the details you need on their new R nineT Scrambler, which is dedicated to motorcycle lovers that want their two-wheeled machine as pure, retro and minimalistic as possible without compromising reliability and performance.
Looking at the R nineT Scrambler, you can tell the platform can’t get more retro than this. The previously inverted forks from the Roadster have been swapped with conventional ones with off-road rubber protectors, while the front wheel got replaced with a larger one, which has 19-inch diameter.
The riding position has been considerably modified through higher handlebars and replaced seat, enabling the rider to stand up more easily when the going gets tough. An analog tachometer sits in between the bars, giving a strong retro sensation along with the steel tank finished in metallic matte.
Naturally, the new R nineT Scrambler comes with wire spokes, and they’re wrapped in dual sport tires to offer decent performance where the pavement ends. The exhaust has been raised too, and there’s also a bash plate underneath the collector to protect it from rocks in case of some spontaneous off-roading happens.
Power is provided by the same 1,170cc air-cooled flat-twin that cranks 110 hp (81 kW)and 119 Nm (85.5 lb-ft). The curb weight remained the same at 220 kg (485 lb) with all fluids in check. Same goes for its dimensions, but shorter riders should keep in mind the seat height grew with an extra 35 mm (1.4 inches). Full specifications can be checked in the news press attached below.
BMW says the new R nineT Scrambler will reach dealerships later this fall and word is the model will cost a bit less than the Roadster. We can’t really find a reason not to reserve one right now...
