BMW Reveals Concept Active Tourer Outdoor [Photo Gallery]
Proportion wise, the concept is about the size of a Golf. It's 4350mm long, 1833mm wide and 1576mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2670mm. The cool part is what you can do with the cargo area. The boot opens very wide and the lip is virtually non-existing. In the press photos, the rear seats are folded flat, making room for a couple of bicycles, some spare wheels and even some tools.
Compared to the Active Tourer Concept, the Outdoor features a new Gold Race Orange exterior paint scheme and rides on 20-inch alloys with accenting paint. It also looks a little closer to a production car with a less fancy interior that does away with fancy interior lighting and uses an 8-inch ConnectDrive display rather than a 10.25-inch system.
The bicycle carrier system could be seen on a production car in the future. The advantages it offers are quite obvious. The bikes are stored inside the car, so the weather can't get to them. It also reduces drag and won't look as embarrassing.
"As well as keeping bicycles dry and clean, this also has the advantage of protecting them extremely effectively from theft and damage. And when not in use, the carrier system disappears away into the side structure of the car or the load compartment floor, without restricting interior space," explains BMW.
