BMW R1200GS and Akrapovic Go All-Black

The 2015 model year BMW R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure receive a nifty treat from Akrapovic in the shape of a new slip-on exhaust silencer, now arriving in a sober and very cool black color. These new cans add to the overall visual impact of the R1200GS machines, as their lines will seamlessly integrate with the overall design, while retaining their individual attire.

Akrapovic’s new silencer is crafter with a titanium sleeve for extreme durability and strength, packed into a lighter build. The sleeve is coated in heat-resistant matte black and sports a white Akra logo. These cans are also supplied with heat-resistant molded carbon fiber end caps which retain the dual-port design. Optional stainless steel and titanium headers are also available, for those who are looking forward to shed even more weight of their big-bore GSs while adding to the performance figures.

These silencers are easily installed on the Beemers and have been designed to comply with the side cases so often present on these bikes. Even more, these plug-and-play cans don’t require ECU mapping alterations or new injection maps, so installing them is possible even in the garages of less mechanically-skilled riders.

Only 2013–2015 BMW R 1200 GS and 2014–2015 R 1200 GS Adventure owners will be able to install these cans. The silencer alone will shed 0.7 kg (1.5 lb) off the R1200GS, while adding 1.8hp @4,450 revs for a final max power of 1210.1 hp @ 7,900 rpm. On the torque side, the max torque gain increases by 4.7 Nm (3.5l b-ft) @ 4,900 revs, with a max figure of 120.3Nm (88.7 lb-ft) reached at 6,700 rpm. No data on the noise levels or price has been provided, but your nearest BMW or Akrapovic dealer should know more.
