BMW Pondering Mexico Assembly Plant
According to Automotive News, the company has started preliminary discussion with local authorities about the possibility of building a facility in Mexico, but no details on what models will be assembled over there, once the factory becomes operational, have been revealed.
The same report says that BMW won’t green light the new factory until a free-trade agreement between the United States and Europe is reached. “It could be as 10 years from now,” said Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW North America.
Meanwhile, the German manufacturer is preparing to commence production in its new plant in Brazil sometime next year. BMW spent $261 million to build the Santa Catarina facility in southern Brazil.
