BMW Motorrad takes a bold step into the virtual realm with a bold move we didn't exactly expect, a graphic novel. The debut of such an undergoing is Riders on the Storm, a graphic novel that is slated for publication in October this year, but was introduced this weekend/
Presented at the Comic Con Germany in Stuttgart, Riders on the Storm will become available to BMW and comic strips fans later this year, ready to make its way to the international markets in October. The graphic novel is published in collaboration with Panini Verlags GmbH, and is based on the text and story of reputed Croatian author and illustrator Darko Macan.

For this limited-edition work, BMW Motorrad also secured the skills of Italian illustrator Riccardo Burchielli, He has over 15 years or experience in the field and has tied his name to the biggest comic brands, such as Marvel, DC Comics, or Dark Horse.

The heroes of Riders in the Storm are Makani, Eve and Nikki Animah. Makani, a policewoman, was inspired by a real-life character, tattoo model Makani Terror. Her companion in the novel is a wolf with exceptional powers, and she is aided by passionate racing rider Eve and equally extraordinaire street artist Nikki. Also in the book, the mysterious Black Riders are inspired by real-life characters, as well.

Burchielli is also an avid motorcycle rider, so he has a much deeper understanding of the biker world, with his daily two-wheeled experiences providing him with inspiration for the stories.

Speaking about Riders in the Storm, Dr. Ralf Rodepeter, Head of Marketing and Product Management BMW Motorrad says: “Many of us have been familiar with comics since childhood, and we have seen superheroes and fantasy worlds adapted for the big screen, too. The people behind these stories are equally fascinating. Riccardo Burchielli is a motorcycling enthusiast himself and through him we are able to provide insights into how a comic story comes into being. And of course we ensure his heroes are equipped with suitable bikes.

The author and illustrator are having enormous fun, and we very much look forward to overseeing this extravagant and stylish blend of fantasy, adventure and mystery. The comic is conceived as a limited edition, so it will be a really great item for collectors worldwide,” Hermann Paul, managing director of Panini Verlags GmbH adds.

BMW and Panini presented their graphic novel project at Comic Con Germany in Stuttgart on 25 and 26 June, 2016, in the presence of Makani Terror, and with an exclusively designed Art Bike of the new BMW G310R on display.

Riccardo Burchielli will also be signing autographs at the upcoming BMW Motorrad Days from 1 to 3 July, 2016 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, BMW informs us.
