Car engines loaded in motorcycle frames is one thing we run into quite often, but the other way around is a rather rare treat for those in love with one-off, custom vehicles. However, if you're a racing legend like Pete Sparrow, blurring the lines and breaking the borders is everyday business, so seeing him load a boxer BMW motorcycle engine in the iconic mellow Citroen 2CV only seems natural.
So here's his racing Citroen 2CV, now powered by a BMW flat twin which smashes the past of the old 2 HP French engine. Even more, Pete is offering entire kits for upgrading the specs of the old Citroens, and it all comes down to the donor bike.

Therefore, Sparrow's mystery machines can go anywhere from 850cc to 1200, with a power from 75 to 125 HP, and reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph (160 km/h). Whereas 60 mph (96 km/h) was a dream speed for the old car, the BMW boxer-powered versions are race-ready.

Pete Sparrow adds that the motorcycle engine adapter kits can now be mated to "2CV late-style gearboxes or 4/5 speed Citroen GS/A gearboxes with a Citroen Visa 652cc bell housing. The kit can also be fitted to Babour 4x4."

The Sparrow Automotive BMW R Series engine to 2CV/GS/A gearbox kit is £600 ($937 or €700) and includes:
  • Engine to gearbox adapter plate
  • Crankshaft extension/adapter
  • Flywheel bolts
  • Modified diaphragm 2CV flywheel (exchange)
  • Fixing hardware
  • Modified dowels
  • Inlet manifold adapters
  • Engine mountings
  • Carriage and exchange flywheel.

A complete conversion also needs:
  • Valeo diaphragm 2CV clutch
  • Valeo small starter motor
  • Donor BMW bike or parts
  • Exhaust system
  • Engine frame to suit your conversion/engine/chassis/oil cooler
  • Large oil cooler.
