BMW M6 Gran Coupe Competition vs. M6 Coupe Acceleration Comparison Shows The Gap

While the BMW M6 Competition Package is nothing new, many still wonder how much faster this splendid piece of tech kit makes the M6. Well, we're here to bring you a real-world answer to that question.

And we've brought along a piece of footage - the clip at the bottom of the page brings not a drag race, but an instrument cluster comparison involving the "standard" 560 hp BMW M6 Gran Coupe and the 600 hp Competition Package M6 Gran Coupe.

Oh, and by the way, the tech details of the video below do need a bit of correcting - for instance, the F12 is the chassis code for the Convertible, while we're dealing with the F06 four-door coup here. And the EU unladen weight of the four-door M6 is 1,950 kg.

While we're at it, we'll mention the Competition Package brings the output of the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 from 560 hp and 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) 600 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm).

And that's not all. The suspension has also been upgraded, with stiffer bushings, shock absorbers and springs. And, as you can imagine, all the electronically-controlled bits and bobs have been sharpened up. Heck, even the 19-inch wheels of the M6 have made room for 20-inch units on the Competition models.

Returning to the clip below, this allows us to see the instrument clusters of the two models while they were being hooned on the German Autobahn, albeit on separate occasions.

Yes, this is a flawed comparo, as, for instance, the "standard" model has a full tank, while the Competition only comes with a little over half a tank. Then there's the take-off, a detail that matter and one whose parameters we don't have.

Even so, this piece of footage gives us a decent idea of what happens when the two BMW M6 Gran Coupe flavors are put through their paces, so we won't complain.
