BMW M4 vs Jaguar F-Type V6 S Comparison Test

Ever since the new BMW M4 was launched people started comparing it to a variety of models, some new, others older. Apart from the inevitable comparison with the current Audi RS5 and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, other cars are being compared to the new M car. Amongst them, the Jaguar F-Type.

Sure, the F-Type is available in 3 different guises and picking the right one might be a bit of a problem. That’s because the Jag has three different engines available, with it coming the confusion of picking the right one.

The entry-level F-Type Coupe (if you can call it that) has a 3-liter V6 engine making 340 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, then there’s the V6 S with the same engine making 380 HP and 460 Nm (338 lb-ft). The range topping model is the R Coupe, fitted with a 5-liter supercharged V8 engine making 550 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque.

Now, since the 5-liter V8 might be a bit too much, we’d say that the V6 S is the perfect competitor for the M4. Looking over the specs, though, it seems like the BMW could also keep up with the Jaguar F-Type R. That’s because the M4 will do 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds whereas the Brit will be 0.1 seconds slower.

The guys from GTO also chose the V6 S when they set out to do a comparison between the F-Type and the M4 and they soon started to see where the two are most different.

On one hand, you have the turbocharged setup on the M4 that is a bit less responsive than the supercharged one on the Jaguar. Then, you should keep in mind that the Bimmer has an inline 6-cylinder engine making a bit more power (431 HP) and torque (550 Nm/406 lb-ft) than the V6 from Whitley.

While we too’d take the Jaguar over the BMW for its looks and sound, when looking at the overall package, the M4 makes more sense. It’s not just that it’s more composed in tight corners or that it will negotiate high-speeds better but it’s also because of the extra two seats in the back that make it a more practical car. Check out what they had to say in the video below (remember to turn on the subtitles unless you know Dutch).
