We reported earlier that BMW Motorrad was kaput as far as World Superbike factory racing was concerned. One of the team's former riders, Chaz Davies is already on a 2-year contract with Ducati and we're pretty sure Marco Melandri will also find a team quite easily.
However, BMW's retirement from WSBK as a factory team does not mean they are vanishing form the series. The Bavarians will be present at every race track providing on-site support for teams running S1000RR and HP4 machinery.
Berthold Hauser will act as the new Technical Director for BMW Motorrad Motorsport. The three years BMW has been running the customer racing program and the past experience in WSBK allowed the German manufacturer to gain a lot of experience which will be transposed in both bike-making and tech support for the future customers, Shephan Schaller, President of BMW adds.
Hauser, who has been running the BMW Motorrad HP RaceSupport since it's very first year (2011) also adds that the company is eager to develop the knowledge on racing achieved in Superstock 1000, the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM), various national Superbike championships, and the World Endurance Championship and share it with the customers and team running BMW machinery.
