Over the last month, BMW simply blew its 2 competitors out of the water, managing to sell a whopping 212,908 units worldwide, 42,458 more than Audi and 54,385 more than Mercedes-Benz.

That’s not all though. Over the first quarter of the year, the Bavarians also dominated the scene on a global scale, managing to post record-breaking numbers once again, with a total of 487,024 units sold compared to 412,850 sold by runner-up Audi and 374,276 recorded by Mercedes-Benz.

The battle is really heating up, the two rivals of the Munich-based company posting bigger percentage gains. For example, the BMW sales in March grew by 21,639 units while Audi grew by 22,738 units, the Ingolstadt company gaining ground.

In the world’s biggest market, China, BMW is also keeping Audi at bay, selling 158,120 units over the last 3 months, while the competition managed to sell just 124,520 units, posting a 21.1 percent increase compared to the Bavarians’ 21.8 percent growth.

Mercedes, on the other hand, managed to post the biggest growth in this market out of the 3, with a 47.6 percent increase overall. However, as big as that increase might look like, Mercedes is still far behind on sales, adding up to just 67,058 units in China.

In the future, things might change, though, if things go according to BMW’s plans that wants to break the 2 million mark this year, thanks to a myriad of new models, including the 4 Series Gran Coupe, X4 and new M3 and M4. With nearly a quarter of the proposed target already sold in the first 3 months, things are looking up for the Munichers.
