While the rear seats of the BMW i8 are cramped enough to keep even the most ambitious of adults at bay, the hybrid sportscar's two-plus-two configuration brings a great deal of extra practicality.
While the obvious benefit is that you don't have to turn to the luggage compartment to store items such as your backpack, this isn't the only advantage. Let's face it, many aficionados have a family by the time they can afford a vehicle such as BMW's CFRP, so being able to take the little one(s) along is no small feat.

But what if the Bavarians built a BMW i8 shooting brake, such as the one rendered above? There are tons of reasons for such a model to come to life, so let's go through the most important ones together.

First of all, the S/B theme would allow the i8 to cater to the needs of a much larger audience. More sales mean happy customers and a happy automaker. Sure, some people might find the luggage compartment as insufficient - anybody who's traveled with their children will easily understand this one.

Well, this is where the roof rack comes into play. These practical accessories have gained traction in the go-fast vehicle world over the last few years. While their use is still mostly limited to people who carry their slicks to the track or eccentric aficionados such as Jon Olsson, we can mention an increase in popularity.

Then there's the design point of view. Over the last decade or so, BMW has gone through major visual changes, with the company turning to its styling roots more than once, in the pursuit of a well-defined new-age identity. While we can't say the Germans have a rich shooting brake tradition, the appearance of this i8 derivative seems to fall in line with what BMW has introduced lately.

Until BMW gets to expand its i sub-brand (we're getting there), all we can do is admire the world of digital artist Rain Prisk, whom we need to thank for this pixel rearrangement.
