Today we’re in for a treat, as we get to see the first actual, proper review of the i8 on video. Arguably, we’ve seen the car driven by the guys from Bloomberg a while back but we think we can all agree that was a bit short and unsatisfying.
This time, the car has been handed down to the one person that’s most likely to take over when the Top Gear crew will retire in a few years, Mr. Chris Harris.

Known for his extravagant behavior and the ‘tire-smoking’ style he usually adopts, everyone expected him to start racing the i8 and get all the tires squealing as soon as he jumped in. However, we were surprised by the fact that he actually understood what this car stands for.

When BMW set out to develop the i sub-brand they wanted to offer a sustainable alternative for excited driving and even racing to some extent. Their endeavor was to create a car that brings you as much excitement as possible while also being eco-friendly.

You might say that other cars do a lot more using similar hybrid technology and you might be right to a point. Sure, they’re also using two different propulsion methods but they are definitely not as ‘clean’ as the i8.

That’s the key here. The i car will give you almost the same thrills as a Porsche 911 while eating up an absurd low amount of gas and emitting less than 50 grams of CO2 into the atmosphere per kilometer (in this regard, a Porsche 991 911 Carrera Coupe will emit 4 times more fumes).

Furthermore, when you want it, this car will emit absolutely zero emissions and will consume no fuel, running on electricity alone for up to 32 km (20 miles), just as Chris says. It will do so in the utmost silence and become the quiet, friendly car you might need after a hard day’s work.

Forgetting about its exterior look (that not everyone loves, as we understand that), the interior sure looks like it’s from 20 years into the future. Everything was rethought and reshaped to fit the rest of the car and take it into the future, a great plus in our opinion.

The i8 is head turner everywhere you go, with no exceptions. At its price range, other Bimmers might do the same but park them next to the i car and they will soon fade out. You simply can’t beat it. Just like you can’t deny its performance and the fact that it’s a strong step forward.
