The 2015 Car of the Year Award already has its 31 candidates that will enter the first phase of the contest. Amongst them, BMW has no less than four cars listed, more than any other automaker involved in the race for the coveted title.
The 2 Series Coupe, i8, X4 Sport Activity Coupe and the 2 Series Active Tourer are the chosen ones from BMW’s range and we’re quite surprised to see the latter involved in the race. That’s because it was reviewed by few journalists so far and it didn’t get a chance to get its point across. Furthermore, it’s the first front-wheel drive BMW ever made so some issues are bound to show up.

Moving on, it’s worth noting the competition. Mercedes-Benz has 3 cars running for the title at the moment, out of the 31 nominees chosen so far: the new C-Class, GLA-Class and S-Class. The only other manufacturer that also has 3 nominees in the contest is Nissan, with its Pulsar, Qashqai and X-Trail.

Then come the companies that have two nominees, like Citroen (with the C1 and C4 Cactus), Ford (with the EcoSport and Mondeo), Lexus (with the NX and RC) and Smart (ForTwo and ForFour) followed by all the rest that have only one car in the race (Fiat 500X, Hyundai i20, Infiniti Q50, Jeep Renegade, Kia Soul, Opel Corsa, Peugeot 108, Porsche Macan, Renault Twingo, Skoda Fabia, Subaru WRX STI, Suzuki Celerio, Toyota Aigo and Volkswagen Passat).

As usual, this huge list of 31 cars will be reduced to a short one (usually made up of 12 contenders) that will be announced on December 15. The winner will be announced on March 2 at the Geneva Motor Show.
