The Italian GS Challenge was held 28 and 29 September near Florence, at the Castle of Pomino, the estate of the Marquis de Frescobaldi and brought no less than 40 riders to the start.
With a series of tests gradually increasing in difficulty, the first day eliminated half of them. The first day tasks comprised uphill and downhill technical tracks, obstacles and camber corners, front wheel tear down and reassembly, complete with tire changes.
A surprise night test saw the remaining guys having to deal with going up a hill on an F800GS and making it safely to into the valley with the engine shut down. Finally, navigation test have put the riders in difficulty, especially as the rain had started and made the tasks even harder.
After some psychological tests to identify the rider with the best leadership skills, the Italian GS Trophy team was selected, and will "do battle" in 2014 against the other national teams.
