The BMW F87 M2 is apparently going into a new testing phase as our latest spyshots and video seem to suggest. If in the early days, when we first saw the car it was basically a wider M235i, this time, the prototypes were spotted wearing different bumpers all around.
Photos seem to suggest that the front end received a new bumper that (to us) looks a bit more aggressive with a different design than the one used on the M235i, as it should. Round the back, the rear bumper shows the quad-tailpipe exhaust system that is expected by everyone to be used on the production model.

No other changes are noticeable for now, as the car is very well camouflaged but you really should expect a bit more from a proper M model. Our guess is that the side sills will be a bit wider and more protuberant than on the 2 Series while the fenders will be considerably wider all around.

As for the technical details, the engine used will be an upgraded version of the N55 3-liter 6-cylinder plant used on the M235i that is supposed to be making around 370 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

Lightweight materials will probably be used as well, to keep everything in check, including CFRP and aluminum wherever possible. Considering the more compact size of the M2 compared to the M4, we’re guessing the performance gap between the two won’t be too big.

It remains to be seen if the transmission will follow the same path, being borrowed from the M3 and M4 duo or if it will be like the 1M Coupe model, where only the manual 6-speed gearbox was available. Either way, production is set to begin in Fall 2015.
