Most people deemed the new M6 a failure before even seeing it on the road, or on the circuit, judging it just by the numbers, especially its weight. With that happening, the new model had a lot of ground to cover and prove its worth.
It did so, defeating a lot of cars that seemed untouchable before setting out on the asphalt. Such cars included a GT-R, Lamborghinis and even a Ferrari. Now, it's time to take a look at another drag race, this time against another supercar, the R8.

The V10 model suffered minor design retouches in order to set it apart from the version equipped with the 4.2L V8. As expected the car's performance has been upped, with the powerhouse developing 525 HP now and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque.

With a kerb weight of 1,695 kg (3,736 lbs), the 5.2-liter R8 reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds with the R-tronic transmission, tapping out at a maximum speed of 196 mph (313 km/h).

The M6, on the other hand, has a 4.4-liter V8 under the bonnet that produces 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque, weighs around 2 tones and goes to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds thanks to its 7-speed DCT gearbox.

That's from a standstill. From a rolling start, as we're about to see, things might be a little different. Check it out!
