What is a Chumpcar? You probably heard of the Lemons racing series, right? It’s that funny race that takes place on Sebring every year and has all kinds of funny looking, old cars in it. Those babies are called Chumpcars.
A chumpcar has to be priced at under USD500 when it is bought for the race and must be on the approved list for the competition. After buying it, you have to prepare it for an endurance race that is 14 hours long. That’s hard to do.

Not only because you have to install a roll cage, strip the car down and everything else that helps it go faster but also because the engine, gearbox and brakes will be working overtime during this whole ordeal. Few old cars can do it.

But if BMW is known for one thing, that’s amazing powertrains. The guys from Precision Sport Industries helped out a willing mechanic and his team, buy, build and race a BMW E36 Chumpcar.

Of course it had to be a BMW and it had to be an E36 (because of the price range) but it didn’t have to be a 325i. However, they made a great choice and the car proved to be as reliable as ever.

The whole process took 10 weeks but in the end, the guys were able to race the thing at Sebring in September and even finish the race, a great result for a bunch of rookies. You can read the whole story in the press release section, below. Enjoy!
