The city of Barcelona, Spain has received the first fleet of electric maxi scooters which will be added to the existing vehicles the local police uses for daily operations. It is also the first time the Barcelona PD will use electrically-powered vehicles to aid the officers in their everyday duty.
BMW Motorrad delivered the first 30 C Evolution maxi scooters and this is most likely only the beginning of a much more ample process of adding an increasing number of environmentally-friendly vehicles to the police stable, helping Spanish cities curb pollution.

Not a long time ago we reported on how the Mayor of Spain’s capital Madrid has set in motion a plan to improve the air quality in the central area of the town by banning non-resident cars and favoring motorcycles, public transport and other “greener” technologies. Things have been taken more seriously by the Mayor of the French capital Paris, and you can read more on the matter following this link.

It is still unknown how large the whole BMW C Evolution operation might be, but we suspect that a city such as Barcelona will want more than 30 electric scooters, especially as they are complying better with the green technologies this city has implemented already.

Solid growth in BMW Motorrad sales in February and to-date in 2015

This February recorded the fifth all-time high sales volume for BMW Motorrad, as the German manufacturer sold 13.5% more bikes in the second month of the Year. No less than 9,195 motorcycles and maxi scooters have been sold in February 2015, compared to only 8,098 BMW moved in the same month last year.

The ascending trend of the second month has also contributed to yet another new record, this time in the to-date sales. “With 15,458 vehicles sold we have achieved a new record after the first two months of the year. This is a considerable increase in sales of 14.2% as compared to the equivalent period last year,” BMW Motorrad’s Head of Sales and Marketing Heiner Faust said. In the first two months of 2014, 13,536 BMW bikes and maxi scooters have been sold.

We know we’ve said this on multiple occasions, but we are waiting for the all-new S1000XR to hit the dealerships and see the impact this new model will have on this year’s sales.
