BMW announces that their i3 electric vehicle could receive an optional gas engine to cover for the battery recharging needs while in motion.
While there was no definitive official statement as to which engine will be chosen, BMW declares that the power unit they have in mind should be in the 600cc segment and will most likely be also made by BMW. And since designing a new combustion engine takes more than a few months, we can only expect to see one of the C-scooter engines tweaked for the job.
The C600 or C650 engines provide both the small footprint and the necessary specs to fit the bill, and adding auto-stop features and some other automotive-specific modding could make things really cool. Some even say such an addition could mean an 190 miles (300 km) boost, and that is not a thing to be taken lightly.
Well, we'll soon find out BMW's exact plans and see if they're cross-splicing auto and moto genes for their new range of EVs.
