BMW BluePerformance Prices Announced

BMW's division of North America has just unveiled the prices for their new lineup of highly efficient diesel engines.

The new 335d sedan and the X5 xDrive35d, called a Sports Activity Vehicle, mark the entering into the era of advanced “BluePerformance” diesels. Boasting a MSRP price tag of $44,725 for the 335d including handling and destination, whereas the X5 xDrive35d is announced at around $52,025 also including handling and destination; BMW say that the their new advanced “BluePerformance” diesel will represents a big step for the “EfficientDynamics” initiative program on the US market.

"This is an important launch for BMW, both of these vehicles have outstanding fuel efficiency while offering performance that delivers on the promise of the Ultimate Driving Machine. With up to nearly 600 miles of range, these BMW Advanced Diesels will be perfect for the way Americans drive,” Jim O'Donnel, the president of BMW North America division, stated.

Customers of both cars equipped with the “Advanced Diesels” will benefit from an IRS Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, meaning that they will qualify for a maximum credit tax of $900 for the 335d sedan and a maximum tax credit of $1,550 for the X5 xDrive35d.

Also considered to be a riposte at the Mercedes Benz answer to high efficiency and low emission diesel engines, called "BluTec", the new BMW "BluePerfomance" diesel power unit will meet the EU6 emissions regulations that aren't due till 2011. According to BMW, the “BluePerformance" technology further improves the filtering and the cleaning of the exhaust gases before it leaves the vehicle, compared to the normal diesel engines, making this new generation of Diesel engines one of the cleanest that BMW has ever produced”.

The engine will also be fitted with a NOx filter to even further reduce the amount of harmful gases. More images in the gallery below.
