BMW Alpina B6 GT3 Detailed Before Geneva
The B6 has a 4.4l supercharged powerplant that puts out 530 horsepower and 725 Nm of torque, controlled by a 6 speed sequential gearbox. The rather lightweight 1,349 kg (2,976 lbs.) vehicle was tested at the Nordscheleife track and managed to score 3.9 seconds 0 to 60 mph acceleration, reaching a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/hour).
The car will be offered to both racing teams and individual customers, but no information about the cars price has yet been released. Alpina returns to FIA GT3 European Championships with their GT3 race car and will be racing against other GT3 spec cars based on Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche.
Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH is an automobile manufacturing company based in Buchloe, Germany and was originally intended as an office machinery builder it was only in 1965 when the company established itself as a BMW tuning business. It took company made BMW only three years to win the European Touring Car Championship, the German hill-climb, rally and track racing championships and the prestigious Spa-Francorchamps 24 hour endurance race.
Alpina has been recognized by TÜV as an automobile manufacturer, thus "ALPINA"-built cars are branded and registered as "ALPINA" and not "BMW," although owner privileges through BMW are maintained. ALPINA is a stand alone car manufacturer in close co-operation with BMW. This means ALPINA cars can be bought and serviced at local BMW dealerships.
