To go with the slew of new cars launched - the M135i, 1-Series 3-Door and F31 3-Series Estate - BMW is also upgrading the 5-Series Gran Turismo for the 2013 model year, with a number of engine upgrades coming this July for this strange crossover vehicle.
We’ve already talked in detail yesterday about the introduction of a new, more efficient entry-level model in the form of the 520d GT model. But the Bavarians haven’t stopped there, as they’ve revised the engines for the BMW Gran Turismo 530d and the BMW Gran Turismo 550i, for both the rear-wheel drive and xDrive models.

Starting with the the 530d GT, this comes with a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel that gets an extra 14 PS (13 hp) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) of torque for a total of 255hp (258PS) and 560Nm (413 lb-ft). Despite this increase in power, the engine is actually a tiny bit more efficient as well.

In addition, the BMW 535d Gran Turismo also has a boost for its straight-six engine, and as of July, the models sold will provide a total of 313 horsepower (230 kW) and 630 Nm of torque from just 1,500 rpm.

Meanwhile, for the top-of-the-range 550i GT, the turbo V8 engine has been boosted by 40hp (43PS) and 50Nm (37 lb-ft) to 443hp (450PS) and 650Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque.

To make sure you get the best of the economy, starting this July, the 5-Series Gran Turismo gets Auto Start/Stop as standard, together with electric power steering and Driving Experience Control with ECO PRO mode.
